PRP Therapy for Hair Loss
PRP TREATMENT FOR HAIR LOSS
Overview
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) encourages tissue growth and is often used in conjunction with other restoration methods to improve healing and stimulate collagen production in both the donor and treatment areas. PRP can also be an effective treatment for thinning hair on its own. These versatile procedures are one of the fastest-growing, non-surgical treatments for natural hair restoration.
When using the power of your body’s growth factors, additional chemicals and / or medications are not needed. The organic aspect of PRP means that any worries about allergic reactions or other adverse side effects can be greatly eliminated. Additionally, you don't need to worry about anyone noticing as there's minimal downtime associated with the procedure.
PRP HAIR RESTORATION PROCEDURE Overview
PLATELET-RICH PLASMA THERAPY In Detail
Human plasma contains platelets, a natural source of proteins called growth factors. These growth factors play an important part in the body’s healing response to injury or, in our case, hair loss. Platelet-ich plasma is prepared in our clinic from your own blood. This suspension is injected into the surgical site to accelerate the formation of new cellular growth.
PRP is created by separating platelets from a blood sample, increasing their concentration, and mixing them back into the extracted plasma, making it 5 to 10 times richer in platelets.
When prepared by The Hair Loss Doctors By Robert J. Dorin, PRP is very effective when injected into areas of thinning hair or balding scalp to produce recovery and regrowth. The most effective form of PRP for hair loss has 5 to 10-times concentration of platelets and is combined with Acell MatriStem which is a cellular matrix derived from porcine bladder. Both the PRP and the Acell contain cellular growth factors that specifically target the stem cells of the hair follicle.
The PRP plus Acell solution we use at The Hair Loss Doctors is generally identified by experts in the field as the most effective PRP.
The effect of PRP can potentially last 12 to 18-months - this can be prolonged if the patient is also using finasteride, minoxidil and / or Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT). PRP injections can be repeated if needed.
The patient below underwent 2 PRP / Acell sessions in conjunction with Propecia.

THE PRP TREATMENT PROCESS If PRP Is A Hair Loss Solution For You, What's In-Store?
PRP is created from your own blood - making PRP therapy a very safe procedure. To begin, your blood will be drawn and your high-concentration PRP will be created using centrifugation, a high-velocity spinning process that separates and extracts the platelets.
Scalp Stimulation: After topical numbing anesthesia is applied, the scalp is then stimulated with micro-needling to cause trauma to the dermis. This induces a healing process, which naturally calls growth repair cells into action.
PRP Injections: The highly-concentrated PRP is strategically injected into areas of the scalp where hair loss is occurring and also applied topically. No aftercare is needed, and you can return to your normal activities immediately.

WILL PRP HAIR LOSS THERAPY WORK FOR YOU?
PRP therapy is most effective in cases of androgenetic alopecia or hereditary male and female pattern balding. It is also effective for patients with alopecia areata and similar diseases that cause the immune system to attack hair follicles.
Individual results will vary, but preliminary studies show PRP does halt and reverse hair follicle thinning in many patients. The earlier treatment is initiated, after hair loss begins, the better the results. Patients typically begin to notice a difference in 90-days with full results becoming evident after 1 year.
The new growth will continue to integrate with the rest of your hair. Your hair will look thicker and fuller, taking years off your appearance. To maintain or improve the results, after your initial PRP, maintenance treatments are generally recommended and can be repeated on an as-needed basis.
