What Are Your Hair Loss Solution Options? Let's Briefly Explore
After FUT procedure
After FUE procedure
Hair Transplantation - Surgical
Dr. Robert J. Dorin offers two forms of surgical hair transplantation options: Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).
During FUT, one of our medically licensed surgeons will remove a strip of tissue from your donor area (usually at the back or side of the head). Using ultra-delicate microscopic techniques, we then divide the strip into follicular unit grafts. Next, we transplant these grafts to the thinning areas.
FUE is a minimally invasive alternative to FUT. During an FUE session, a medically licensed doctor (not a technician or robot) will excise follicular units one at a time instead of removing a full strip from the scalp (as is done in FUT). Although FUE typically takes longer to perform than FUT, it also offers a faster recovery time, no stitches, and no linear scar.
PRP Therapy - Non-Surgical
If you prefer to forego a surgical hair transplant, you can also undergo medical therapy such as Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. PRP contains growth factors that can potentially address thinning hair by stimulating follicle stem cells in areas with hair loss. PRP can also be used intraoperatively, during a hair transplant procedure, to expedite healing and further promote new hair growth. PRP therapy can also be combined with ACell. ACell is a cellular matrix that can revitalize hair follicle stem cells and stimulate additional hair growth. At The Hair Loss Doctors By Robert J. Dorin, our expertise has showed us that this form of PRP is most effective.
Laser Therapy - Non-Surgical
While medical studies on results vary, some patients, who prefer a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment, do experience hair regrowth with photobiomodulation (PBM) or low-level light therapy (LLLT) with laser or LEDs. For patients who want to undergo laser therapy at home, PBM-LLLT therapy caps are an alternative.
Prescription & Over-The-Counter Medications
In some cases, medication might be the best option for treating your hair loss condition. Depending on your condition, Dr. Dorin may prescribe medications like PROPECIA (a type of Finasteride), oral minoxidil, or topical finasteride. Over-the-counter (OTC) options such as ROGAINE® or generic minoxidil are also options. We recommend that you attend a virtual or in-person consultation, with Dr. Robert J. Dorin, before trying any OTC medication.

Still Have Questions? Here Are Some Of The FAQs We Receive
If you are considering hair restoration and have access to Greater NYC or Boston, MA, you may have many questions about your treatment, its costs, and its potential risks. To help you make an informed decision about your hair loss treatment options, Dr. Robert J. Dorin has compiled a list of answers to many of the most common questions he fields from patients. Our hope is that these answers can help you make an informed decision so you feel completely comfortable undergoing treatment at The Hair Loss Doctors.
Which procedure is right for me?
With so many techniques and treatments to choose from, it can be difficult to determine which procedure is right for you. Dr. Dorin offers surgical and non-surgical hair loss treatments. If we determine that you are a good candidate for surgery (based on the extent of your hair loss and your individual goals), we may recommend FUE or FUT. Both treatments are highly effective for treating hair loss, but they are substantially different. Our doctor will discuss the pros and cons of each procedure with you during your in-person or virtual consultation at our one of our Greater New York City or Boston, MA hair loss clinics.
What are my treatment risks or complications?
All surgeries carry some degree of risk. In very rare cases, patients may experience infection, noticeable scarring, and numbness of the scalp. You can reduce your risk of complications by having your surgery performed by our board-certified surgeon as opposed to having your hair restoration procedure at a clinic where a robot, technicians or non-medical personnel perform your surgery (video).
Will my procedure hurt?
Dr. Robert J. Dorin will provide a topical anesthetic to keep your scalp numb, so you should expect little to no discomfort during the procedure. After the procedure, you can expect minor to moderate discomfort.
How long will it take me to recover ?
There is no set answer to this as it depends on the individual. Accordingly, recovery time will depend on which type of procedure you undergo. However, in general, most patients are fully recovered in 10 to 14-days after a procedure.
"I continue to recommend Dr. Dorin and his team to friends and colleagues..."
I had the privilege of receiving a hair transplant from Dr. Robert Dorin three years ago, and I can confidently say that my experience and results have been nothing short of exceptional. Most of the barbers I've been to since the procedure haven't realized that I've had a hair transplant. Those who did notice were quick to mention that it's among the best they've ever seen.
View on GoogleDr. Dorin is a master at his craft, he also a great guy. His staff is awesome as-well, everybody made me feel very comfortable during the procedure, which isn't easy given my high anxiety level. Dr. Dorin also does not ghost his patients, he gives you his personal cell number, any problems that arise you can message him. A+++++ all around.
